Pipeline from Katepwa for Vale Potash Mine halted for now
The District of Katepwa received a letter from SaskWater President Doug Matthies, stating:
The project is still in a pre-feasibility stage and Vale has requested additional work to consider Buffalo Pound as a potential water source for the mine. We understand Vale wants to ensure the best decision is made to support their $3 billion investment for a mine expected to operate for 70 years.
Until the analysis of Buffalo Pound Lake as a water source is completed and a decision is made indicating which water source is preferred, SaskWater has halted work on the Katepwa Lake option.
SaskWater will continue to provide us with updates as major milestones are achieved.
